Ghost of Tsushima standoffs is a unique mechanic in the game aimed at giving players an upper hand against the enemy.

Ghost of Tsushima is an action/adventure game set in the late 13th century on Tsushima Island as players control samurai Jin Sakai. Players must fight to protect Jin's home against the Mongol Empire and the big bad villain Khotun Khan. The game kicks off with the Mongols invading the island and capturing Lord Shimura. Once playing through some of the introduction, players are treated to the Standoff feature.

Ghost of Tsushima launches tomorrow, and with it comes a robust new Photo Mode. Here are some of the best images and videos we've captured with it:

Ghost of Tsushima Standoffs: How to Master

Standoffs let players trigger a quick time event when approaching an enemy group. The first Standoff appropriately has a tutorial built into it, but after that, players are on their own.

Once a standoff begins, players are told to hold the Triangle button. After a few seconds, the player must figure out when to let go of the button to strike fast and eliminate the enemy in one fatal swoop. Doing so correctly will not only kill the opposition but also grant Jin full Resolve which will go a long way in making the ensuing fight much easier.

Since the game doesn't tell you when to let go of Triangle after the first Standoff, players might find themselves confused with how to do so later on in the game. Especially since Standoff enemies might have different weapons and animations.

Players must look to when the enemy makes a slight move toward Jin. As soon as the enemy looks like they're moving in for the kill, release Triangle and bask in the slow-motion glory. Release too late and players will be in a dire situation for the rest of the fight.

After some time, players will find themselves masters of the Standoff and pitying whichever AI steps up to take them on.
